Partners in Recovery

Partners in Recovery (PiR) aims to:
• Facilitate better coordination of clinical and other supports and services to deliver ‘wrap around’ care individually tailored to a person’s needs;
• Strengthen partnerships and builds better links between clinical and community support organisations responsible for delivering services to the PIR target group;
• Improve referral pathways and facilitates access to the range of services and supports needed by the PIR target group; and
• Promote a community based recovery model to underpin all clinical and community support services delivered to people experiencing severe and persistent mental illness.

Colony 47 coordinates PIR in southern Tasmania. In Tasmania, 30 PIR support facilitators will be employed over the next three years.

A state wide reference group has been established and is responsible for the strategic oversight of PIR. Membership includes peak bodies, consumer and carer peaks and key organisations including the Commonwealth Department of Human Services, State Mental Health Services, private hospitals and Tasmania Medicare Local. Sub regional community forums will also be held to provide local input and contribution to PIR development, innovation, local solutions and strategic partnerships.

The PIR Tasmania model is based on a demonstrated commitment to a recovery oriented framework of practice and culture that places people with severe and persistent mental illness and their families and carers at the centre of all activity.

The model has been developed in consultation with people in Tasmania. This has been achieved through participation in forums, open consultations, dedicated forums for people with lived experience and families, broadly distributed surveys, meetings of the reference group and over 20 face to face and phone meetings with individual service providers.
