For more than 30 years, we’ve been supporting people to get out the door and walk towards better heart health.

Working wonders with every step

If you’re looking for an activity that ticks off multiple health benefits in one, it’s hard to look past walking. The quintessential all-rounder, walking is free, widely accessible and doesn’t require any special equipment — and it can transform almost every aspect of your wellbeing.

This includes your physical health (walking reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes, among other conditions), your mental health (walking helps protect against mental health conditions like depression) and even your social health (walking with a friend or joining a walking group can strength your social connections).

Towards a healthy mind, body and heart

There are lots of good reasons to start walking but building a habit can be challenging. That’s where Heart Foundation Walking comes in.

Walking groups

Joining a walking group is a great way to get moving with the support and motivation of others — and with 36 Heart Foundation Walking groups across Tasmania, there’s likely to be one near you. They’re free to join and run by volunteers, so all you need to bring is a spring in your step.

Each walking group is designed with different types of walkers in mind, from suburban strollers to more ambitious bushwalkers, which means you can pick and choose the group that’s right for you. You might even choose to become a volunteer walk organiser and start a group of your own!

Personal Walking Plans

If you prefer to walk at your own pace or on your own schedule, a Personal Walking Plan might be just what you’re looking for. These six-week plans are designed by experts and tailored to your current fitness level. They’ll help you start slowly and build your strength and stamina over time.

And even though they’re designed for individuals, you’ll never feel alone — you’ll receive regular tips, tricks and recipes, as well as SMS support to keep you motivated.
